MAN UTD 0-1 ARSENAL: MAN UTD ANALYSIS: IMPROVED PERFORMANCE BUT ANOTHER DEFEAT

MANCHESTER United problem exposed vs Arsenal as brutal transfer reality becomes clear for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United played well in defeat against Arsenal on Sunday and yet a familiar failing has let Ruben Amorim down again with the Reds' goalkeeping issues laid bare

Manchester United have begun the 2025/26 season with a glaring weakness they are still some way short of solving.

Ruben Amorim's side impressed in their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday with United's new signings offering a positive impression. Both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo provided glimmers of hope for the Old Trafford faithful.

United pressed impressively, looked more creative and did not let their heads drop after Altay Bayindir's inexplicable goalkeeping error allowed Riccardo Calafiori to put the Gunners ahead. And yet a costly mistake from their keeper has cost Amorim's team once more in a game where they deserved much more.

The Reds have struggled badly to replace David de Gea in goal since his departure and even the Spanaird was not the force he once was when he left in July 2023.

Andre Onana was brought in to improve United's ability to play out from the back. His arrival from Inter Milan was heralded as one to help then-Reds boss Erik ten Hag implement a more dynamic style of play.

But his time at United has been littered with errors and the Cameroon international has been linked with a move away this summer.

Many called for his understudy, Bayindir, to be given more of a chance after his impressive display against Arsenal in the FA Cup last season. The Turkish shot-stopper was easily United's man of the match that day in January.

However, the 27-year-old has failed to live up on that performance in north London. Any hope that such form could be replicated against the same opponent on Sunday were then dashed less than 15 minutes in when he flapped at a ball which led to the Gunners going 1-0 up.
